Written by Owen Tanner
Ivinson Memorial Hospital's emergency department (ED) expansion is entering its final phase, set for completion in February. Phase three will add a break room, offices, and three exam rooms. Recent updates include a new winter garden and a donor wall. The project aims to improve patient comfort, enhance staff efficiency, and reduce wait times. A celebration will mark the completion of the project.
The expansion and renovation project in Ivinson’s emergency department (ED) is preparing to enter its’s third and final phase of construction. Construction is anticipated to be completed in February. Upon the finishing of the project, Ivinson plans to hold a celebration to commemorate all of the hard work and generosity that has gone into the ED Project.
Phase three is the smallest phase of this major undertaking. It will consist of constructing a break room, offices and three additional exam rooms.
Last phase of construction completed the new winter garden area, located to the right upon entering the ED from the patient doors. The winter garden is a passage way in the form of a solarium with additional seating. The passage way is inviting and comfortable while also serving as a connection to the greater hospital. This area is also where the donor wall is located, commemorating those who generously donated to make these renovations possible.
“The expanded waiting room, new nurse’s station and the increased number of exam rooms are all going to ensure the nurses and the rest of the emergency department staff can do their jobs safely and more efficiently,” says Facilities Manager Ken Swain.
Once completed, improvements will include:
- A new entrance to the emergency department.
- A new ambulance garage.
- 13 full-size treatment rooms.
- Four rooms with complete isolation capabilities.
- An enlarged waiting area with room for overflow.
- An exam room designed to treat behavioral health needs safely in the emergency department.
- A decontamination room.
- Updating existing HVAC to provide control over negative air pressure in specific arears of the department.
“With this project we wanted to add to patient comfort, as well as provide better workflow and decrease wait times,” said Dr. Nate Moore, Emergency Medicine Provider. With the work Ivinson has done in the ED, and the work to be conducted in phase three, all of those points are being addressed.
