Awards that Give Thanks
Written by Angelis Medina
The BEE and DAISY award programs recognize nursing, clinical and non-clinical employees that exemplify world-class health care.
World-class healthcare is what Ivinson strives for each day.
Ivinson achieves world-class health care through our commitments to excellence, trust, healing, integrity, community, and safety. Ivinson’s dedication to those commitments is demonstrated everyday through our staff members providing skilled and compassionate care to patients and teamwork with their fellow team members.
To recognize individuals being extraordinary and going above and beyond each day, Ivinson now has three programs for staff recognition: the DAISY Award, the BEE Award, and GEM Award programs.
The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award program was the first implemented at Ivinson since summer of 2018, which celebrates the skillful and compassionate care nurses provide each day.
The BEE (Being Excellent Everyday) Award program has been enacted since July 2022, as a complimentary program to the DAISY award program. The BEE Award program (Being Excellent Everyday) includes recognizing non-nursing members who perform excellence, trust, healing, integrity, community, and safety every day to patients and staff members.
The GEM (Going the Extra Mile) Award program was implemented in the year 2018.The GEM Award Program is based solely on employees recognizing their other fellow employees at Ivinson for “Going The Extra Mile”. This can be categorized by providing selfless and exceptional care and services to patients, fellow employees, and guests who interact with Ivinson team members.
DAISY Awards
The DAISY Award Program is an international program established by J. Patrick Barnes family after he passed away from complications of an auto-immune disease in 1999. During his hospital stay, him and his family were greatly appreciative of the care and compassion that was given by the nurses and team caring for him. After Patrick passed away, his family felt urge to thank nurses in a public way, by recognizing the nurses that were able to make a difference that patients will never forget.
Ivinson is pleased to participate in the DAISY Award Program that recognizes these individuals publicly to honor them. They receive a banner that is signed and hung up in their department for the quarter, a beautiful DAISY pin, a certificate, a handmade Healers Touch sculpture from Zimbabwe that reminds nurses of their bond between them and their patients (made from serpentine stone), and a cinnamon treat that reminds us of Patrick’s favorite food while he was in the hospital. We ask nurses whenever they smell a cinnamon aroma they stop and think of how truly special they are.
BEE Awards
The BEE Award Program recognizes non-nursing individuals in the hospital that are being excellent every day to patients or other staff members. The BEE Award Program was developed as a sister program to the DAISY Award to recognize individuals who exemplify world-class healthcare in more than a nursing capacity. The program seeks to recognize individuals who embody the Ivinson ETHICS: excellence, trust, healing, integrity, community, and safety. Ivinson is pleased to implement BEE Awards to provide the opportunity to all staff members to be recognized for the care they are providing to patient and other staff members. These individuals are recognized publicly in their department with a certificate, a bee pin, an engraved tumbler, bee-themed treats, and a banner that is signed be signed and hung up in their department for the quarter. Eight BEE awardees are selected annually from clinical and non-clinical departments on an alternative basis.
How do I nominate Staff for a BEE or DAISY Award?
BEE and DAISY Awards candidates are selected quarterly to be recognized publicly in their unit/department at Ivinson.
You can recognize these individuals by going to the Employee Nomination Form on Ivinson website, or by filling out a paper form in the public waiting areas of the hospitals. Nominations are most effective when they are specific and are detailed. Your nomination helps Ivinson recognize individuals that made your experience truly special at Ivinson
GEM Awards
The GEM Award Program was built by Partner Development that is an internal recognition program that focuses on Ivinson employees recognizing other employees that are seen “Going the Extra Mile”. Potential categories that could be considered “going the extra mile” include picking up extra shifts, volunteering, handling a challenging situation well, upholding Ivinson core values, coming up innovative ideas, or any care that is demonstrated exceptionally. Individuals are strongly encouraged to keep a look out for fellow employees in different department that are seen “going the extra mile” and providing “world class healthcare”.
How Does Ivinson Recognize GEM Individuals?
GEM individuals can be recognized through GEM cards. The GEM cards are filled out by hand and explains exactly what the employee did that was exceptional. The card is then given to the Gem individual to put in a drop box in the atrium to enter a monthly drawing to win prizes such as ski passes, snow shoes, paddleboards, and local experiences. Nominators of the winning card are also recognized with movie passes, rec center passes, or other small gifts. The prize drawings will occur on the first Monday of every month and there will be a separate box kept in the marketing department with cards gathered after every months drawing, to have a hospital wide celebration once filled.
