Employee Spotlight 25 October 2023
Abigail Soddy, RT
Abigail is a radiology technologist that has found her footing in healthcare with the Ivinson team.
At 18, Abigail Soddy was new to Laramie, attending the University of Wyoming and finding that her university program wasn’t her niche. Entering the workforce, she started working at Ivinson in 2017 as an environmental services technician.
Moving from Silada, Colorado, Abigail has made Laramie her home and found family within the walls of Ivinson.
“I’ve been at Ivinson for six years,” Abigail said. “I knew I wanted to go back to school but I didn’t know for what at that point. It wasn’t until I was introduced to Jerry Rice who told me about the radiology program, that I found my calling.”
Reinvigorated by her interest in a new field, Abigail made the decision to go back to school.
Beginning her two year radiology program through Laramie County Community College, this time Abigail felt different. This time, she was excited and felt like she belonged.
A few months into her program, Abigail transferred to Ivinson’s Radiology department as a technical assistant and was able to immediately get first hand exposure in her field. Within a year, she obtained her student radiology technologist license that allowed her to learn on the job.
“Working at Ivinson, you can advance your career,” Jerry Rice, PACS Application Analyst and Ivinson team member of 12 years said. “There are some really amazing people working here that can help you build your skills. Their patience and kindness make it much easier to hone in your skills and become a well-rounded tech.”
Abigail graduated from the LCCC radiology program in May of 2023 and now works as an official registered technologist. Throughout her schooling, she was able to pay her tuition with Ivinson’s Education Reimbursement Program. Ivinson’s Education Reimbursement Program was created to support the continuing education of Ivinson employees, granting up to $2,500 to eligible applicants per calendar year.
“I was paying $1,500 out of pocket that the hospital helped give back to me. It helps out a lot, especially when you don’t have financial aid.”
As a radiology tech, Abigail’s day-to-day consists of performing x‑rays, assisting with barium studies and imaging in the OR. Abigail is a member of the Wyoming Society of Radiologic Technologists and has served as a student representative with the American Society of Radiologic Technologists, representing Wyoming at the national level.
“I have grown so much professionally and personally through my time here. I wouldn’t be where I am today without my experience at Ivinson,” Abigail said. “I would have never learned about this passion that I have. Schooling was never something that I really wanted to do and then I got into the world of radiology and I fell in love.”
Abigail earned her x‑ray registry in May and is currently working towards her CT registry. With plans to use the education reimbursement resources once again, Abigail is eager to pursue her bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration and work towards her ultimate goal of being a manager in radiology.
“I have chosen to call Laramie my home because of all of the connections I have built here, many of them from the hospital. I don’t plan on leaving anytime soon.”
